Changing to Tabbed Documents
Appearance
Tabs or Not, It’s up to you Users of Access 2007 or later have a great option that is easy to use. You can choose to have any forms or reports open up on a tabbed page. Instead of hunting for a particular page by going to Home on the ribbon bar and choosing Switch Windows, you can just click on the appropriate tab. (not available on Access 2003 or earlier)
Changing to Tabbed View - This is a simple setting for Access overall. It carries with the front end though. If you make this change in the master copy and push it out to users, everyone will have it.
- 1) Go to the top line Ribbon Bar
- 2) Choose File
- 3) Choose Options (this is slightly different depending on Access version you are using)
- i) Choose Current Database
- ii) Click on the choice Tabbed Documents about halfway down page
- iii) Click OK
- iv) Exit Prime and start up again.
- 4) Now each form or report will open on a different tab.

- 5) Why would you not want to use tabbed documents?
- i) Sometimes you want to display two tables next to each other.
- ii) In tabbed documents you have to switch between the documents, since you can’t show both on the screen at the same time.
- iii) To get around this, just follow the above instructions but choose Overlapping Windows. Restart Prime.
- iv) You can go to Home on the Ribbon Bar and:
- (a) Choose Switch Windows
- (b) Show Windows Side by Side
- (c) When you are done you can change back to tabbed documents.
