Litigation
i) Enter the cause of action
ii) You can check if the Petition has been Filed or Received.
iii) Check if the client is beginning the action (P) or is responding to one (D).
iv) Check if client’s address is Protected and then select the reason why the office will not reveal the client’s information in particular cases, such as domestic violence.
v) Enter the Court and Judge
- (a) You can type this information into a blank Court section or
- (b) Pick the first empty Court number in the pull down
- (c) Then select the Judge (which includes the Court) or just the Court. This information will then fill in the empty Court section.
ii) You can store a docket number, a starting and ending date, a judge’s name, the result of the action, and the address of the court for each of the three courts (or administrative agencies). You can also check a box if a judgment was entered.
vi) Note whether judgments have been entered in any of the three courts and what the results of the hearings were. LSC requires legal services offices to track the parties and courts in affirmative lawsuits brought by clients.
vii) This feature can also be used for all cases to provide a knowledge base that would allow reports on how successful your office was in particular courts or in front of different judges.
viii) Enter the Parties
- (a) Enter the names and addresses of the parties to the case in this bottom section
- (b) Choose if they are P or D
- (c) Enter a brief note in Comment
ix) Buttons across the top of the Litigation form
- (a) Save/Stay – Save this information and stay on this form
- (b) Print – Print this form and the information in it
- (c) Time – This button will take you to the Stop Watch Time Keeping form, wherein you can track the time spent on the Intake (Described in Time Keeping)
- (d) Close – Saves the information and returns you to the Client Intake.
