Lawyer Time - Compensated

Compensated tracks time and expenses for which lawyers may be compensated (typically at a reduced rate).

Add

To Add a new record, from the Main Menu, choose Add-->Time Keeping-->PBI Time-->Compensated.

Edit

To Edit an existing record, from the Main Menu, choose Search-->Time Keeping-->Compensated. Use the search screen to find the appropriate entry and open it. You may also open associated entries from other locations, such as Client records.

General Entry

Heading

The first section of the entry holds:

  1. Client -- a dropdown selection of the client associated with the record
  2. Lawyer -- the lawyer associated with the record
  3. Bill Date -- the date of the billing
  4. Bill $ -- the total billing amount
  5. Pay Date -- the date paid
  6. Paid $ -- the paid amount
  7. Hours -- the hours being billed
  8. Hourly Rate -- the rate the hours are billed at
  9. OK Dollar -- dollar amount approved for case
  10. OK Hour -- hour amount approved for case
  11. Part of bill for Time -- dollar amount billed for time
  12. Part of bill for Expenses -- dollar amount billed for expenses
  13. Value of donated time -- value of time donated
  14. Note -- a note for the record

Other Information

The second section holds other information and is an overview of all compensated entries made for the current case. This section updates when the record is saved. This section contains the following items:

  1. Total Slips -- the total number of individual Compensated records entered for the case
  2. Total Billed -- sum total billed across all Compensated records for the case
  3. Total Paid -- sum total paid across all Compensated records for the case
  4. Highest OK Dollar -- the highest OK Dollar amount entered on any Compensated record for the case
  5. Highest OK Hour -- the highest OK Hour amount entered on any Compensated record for the case

Use of the Form

Expanding/Collapsing Sections

Sections (other than the top section) may be expanded or collapsed to display or hide the information within those sections. This can help with viewing the screen.

To expand a collapsed section, click on its header. To collapse an expanded section, click on its header. Multiple sections can be expanded at the same time.

Save/Stay and Save/Close

The Save button will save the record and stay in it. This will allow you to continue to edit the record or add associated entries using the Context menu (such as call from caller, and calls to caller).

The Save/Close button will save the record and then close to the Main Menu/Home Screen.

If an error is encountered in the save, a message should appear at the top of the form in red notifying you of the problem. You may also receive another warning about errors in the case and asking whether you want to continue on in spite of those errors. Some errors (those shown in red at the top) you cannot avoid.

Relationship to Other Records

Using selections in the other records, you can add associated Compensated records, including records such as Clients. In many instances where the associated record has the same information (e.g., name, telephone number), that information is automatically transferred to the new record.
